This policy explains what All Things Applied AI ("we", "us") collects when you visit allthingsappliedai.com (the "Site") and what happens to it.

Information collected when you visit

  • Request data. Like any website, the Site is delivered and secured by a hosting provider that processes standard request data: IP address, browser type, the page requested and the referring address.
  • Approximate location. From your connection, our hosting provider gives our server a country, region and city. We keep that approximate location and never your IP address.
  • First-party analytics. A small script of our own on each page reports to our own server the pages you view, the page address (including campaign tags such as utm_source) and the page you came from, your screen and window size, how far down a page you scroll, how long a page is in view, whether a recommendation on a page comes into view, and the links and buttons you click: their text, their address and where on the page you clicked. The script loads nothing from other companies, sets no cookies itself and stores nothing in your browser.
  • Browser and device type. Our server works out the browser and its version, the operating system and whether you use a desktop, mobile or tablet from the user agent your browser sends, and records only those, not the user agent.

If you write to us

When you write to us through the contact page, we collect your email address, your message, your name if you choose to give one, and the approximate country your connection appears to come from, which our hosting provider tells our server. We do not store your IP address or your user agent with the message.

Your message is used for one thing: replying to you. It is stored with a database service provider in the United States and deleted after 12 months at the latest. It is never used for marketing, and the only others who handle it are the service providers that host and store it for us. You can ask for a message to be deleted sooner through the same contact page; tell us the email address you used.

Links to a company we recommend, which some articles name as our top pick, go first to an address on this Site. Our server records the click (the page, where on the page the link sits and which of that company's pages it leads to) and sends you on to that company's website. The address we send you to carries a one-time click ID, your visitor ID, the name of this Site, the page you came from and a signature that shows the link came from this Site, so that company can connect your visit to its website with your visits here. If the rules described under Your privacy choices apply to you, no visitor ID is passed. Funding and recommendations says which company this is and how we are connected to it.

Who processes analytics

The events described here go from our server to PostHog, Inc., our analytics processor, together with the visitor ID, the device key and the approximate location. PostHog stores and processes them for us in the United States. Your IP address, user agent, name and email address are never sent to it.

Our analytics account is shared with the company we recommend as our top pick, which uses it for its own website, so that company can see the events described above.

We use one first-party cookie, set by our own server on allthingsappliedai.com. It contains a random visitor ID, how many visits you have made, when you last visited and a check code proving our server set it. That lets us count visits and tell new visitors from returning ones. Page scripts cannot read it, it goes only to this Site over secure connections, and it expires 400 days after your last visit. You can remove it in your browser settings whenever you like.

Device key

With each event our server computes a device key: a keyed one-way hash (HMAC-SHA256) of your IP address and user agent, shortened to 32 characters. The same browser on the same connection gives the same key, so it can link visits that probably come from one device, on this Site and on other websites that share our analytics. The key cannot be turned back into your IP address or user agent, and neither of those is stored or sent to our analytics provider. Many people can share one connection, for example in an office or on a mobile network, so the key is an approximate signal, not an identity.

Your privacy choices

  • Global Privacy Control. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we honor it: we set no cookie and remove one set earlier, compute no device key, pass no visitor ID in links to a company we recommend, and record your page views only under an anonymous ID that changes every day and differs from site to site, so we do not follow you across visits.
  • Visitors from Europe, the UK and Switzerland. Visits that appear to come from the European Union, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, and visits whose location we cannot tell, get the same treatment automatically.
  • Your rights. Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act or the GDPR, including access, correction and deletion.

Children's privacy

The Site is meant for adults, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal information. Request data is processed by our hosting provider and analytics events by our analytics provider, on our behalf, as described above, and information is disclosed when required by law. Messages sent through the contact form are stored by our database provider, also on our behalf.

Write to us

To ask about your privacy or to have a message you sent us deleted, write to us through the contact form.
